Basic:
A troll is a supernatural being that resides in isolated places such as caves and mountains, preferably far from mankind. Their appearance usually depends on the subspecies, but can get quite grotesque and ugly.
Trolls from books:
Trolls appear in Lord of the Rings (Tolkien) as creatures of Middle-Earth, in Harry Potter (Rowling), in Discworld (Pratchett), in the series of Artemis Fowl (Colfer) and in the series of Shannara (Brooks).
