Basic:
A nymph is a nature (divine) spirit. They are connected with certain areas (mountains, fields, ...), waters (rivers, fountains, ...) or with plants (trees, flowers, ...). They are not immortal, but do not really tend to age either - their death is linked to the destruction of the place they are bound to. Nymphs are almost always female - a few exceptions exist (Fontus).
Types:
Naiads
Nymphs from wells, fountains, springs, ... (small, fresh waters). They are divided into several subtypes: Crinaeae (fountains), Eleionomae (marshes), Limnades/Limnatides (lakes), Pegaeae (springs) and Potameides (rivers).
Nereids
Nymphs from the mediterranean.
Oceanids
Nymphs from salt water.
