- God, the God as we know Him, was residing in his state of solitude in this universe that He had achieved. He was content with this absence of responsibility at first, but the continuity of its emptiness started to tire Him. He wanted something to watch, something that would bring a bit of a change, so in the back of His mind, an idea flickered that was only just beyond His reach. And God said: “Let Us make a child to watch over, in Our image.” So He created a being, something that would be like Him, and this resulted in a single sexless creature: the First-Born. He gave the entity a void place, without form, so that it had something to go to and call home. He called this place Earth. Seeing what He had made, He was content. But His creation was not able to find Earth. It could not see in the never-ending blackness that it was in. And God said: “Let there be light.” And He formed a ball of Gas, so large that it would outlast the age in which the First-Born would live twice over. God saw that the light was good, but to remind the First-Born of the darkness, He allowed it to experience both of them. He called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. He gave His First-Born a morning, and He gave it an evening: a day. The First-Born could now see, but it would linger around, without any direction and clueless of where to go. So God said: “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” And He made the firmament as He had said. And He separated the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament. And it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. The First-Born had been watching the Father’s actions, and it sighed. As it needed time to comprehend what was new, it wanted to rest. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day for the First-Born to live. After he had brought His creation to Earth on the first day, He then leaned back to watch it. And He saw that the First-Born would just be on its own. It was lonely, like He was Himself, to do nothing but wandering over the face of the waters. And God wondered what He could do to make this entity, His first child, more happy. So He said: “Let Us give Our child something to watch over, to its likeness.” And He thought. Then He said: “Let the waters under the Heaven be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And the water under the Heaven gathered together, allowing dry land to appear. God called the dry land Shore. The waters that were gathered together, He called Seas. And He saw that it was good. Then, God said: “Now let the Shore put forth vegetation. Let plants yield seed, let fruit trees bear their fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind.” And so, it happened. The Shore would bring forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. God watched this and He saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, a third day for the First-Born to live. And as the creature walked around in curiosity for the new things it could look at, God thought of something new. Just like He did something special to what was under the firmament, He would do something with what was above the firmament. And as a counterpart for the light at day, God decided to weaken the darkness of the night. So God said: “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to separate the day from the night. Let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, and let them be lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light upon the earth." And it was so. He put created a milder Sun and called it Moon, and he created the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light upon the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. The evening came, and the First-Born was done with the long walk to explore vegetation. In amazement, the creature went to sit down, looking up. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day for the First-Born to live. So the creature got up, and saw that everything was the same as the last day. And the entity started trying to find another route to walk. And God thought about more things that would be constantly changing and evolving. And He said: "Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the firmament of the heavens." So He created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds. And He created every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth." And there was evening and there was morning, a second day for the First-Born to live. And God said: "Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds." And it was so. And He made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the cattle according to their kinds, and everything that creeps upon the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Then He saw that His First-Born walked around and showed interest in them, but still felt lonely, He thought about a solution. So He took two ribs from its body. With the first, He created the first angels and taught them how to love. With the second, He made more fragile beings. They were much like the First-Born, just like this creature they were an image of God. But at the same time, they were very different: they needed each other, they were like a puzzle to fit together. This would be how the fragile beings reproduced. As the angels were to guard the world and the fragile beings, the fragile beings had been given the dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. And they had also been given the gift to fall in love with each other; humans, He called them. And it was so. And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, a sixth day for the First-Born to live. The First-Born saw this love and how much the humans used it to appease each other and be happy, but did not understand it. Wondering why the Father had made this curse, causing the creature to be forever alone and in pain without this incomprehensible love, the First-Born’s anger caused it to lash out at God. Not having foreseen such a reaction from His beloved creation, He was struck by the lash. His immerse physical power deflected the true effects of the strike, but somewhere inside of Him, it had cause His mind to fracture… His subconscious mind shattered into shards, and nightmares and dreams would meld into one single spectral thing. The immense power, deflected from the initial strike, met these dream shards, and caused the creation of a fourth being. The residual energy of God’s recent creation of angels and humans caused the physical appearance of these dreams to be similar to theirs, the creatures’ minds however to look in nothing like their counterparts, wild and alien. The thoughts of God’s subconscious mind rages inside them, the ability to alter the world around them in their veins. God had not expected this, especially not from the one He had tried to make happy in the first place. Since He could not give the creation the love it wanted, He had no choice but to separate it to protect the other beings from its wrath. The First-Born had taken the creation of the angels and the fragile beings for granted, and He would now take it all away again, discontent and disappointed because of what His beloved first creation had done. He trapped the entity in a place elsewhere, making sure it could not get out. It was a cold and dead prison, a place strongly shielded away from Earth. And He locked up the five shards of his subconscious along with the entity, as He had no control over them. The world was safe for a while now, as the danger had been locked away, but it was not destined to remain that way. The five creatures, known as the Spectral Dreams, each unique and powerful in their own way, turned against the cause of their imprisonment: the First-Born. They were angry at it, for it had brought them to a life that they despised, an existence in an empty, sealed shell. They were too far away from any kind of happiness or fortune, too far away from the heavens where they were born at. Combining their powers, they faced the First-Born, and killing him instantly, the great release of their power would damage the barrier that there prison was. The expulsion had torn a rift in their prison, allowing them to step back out and into the human world. An insanely bright light would flash, in a wide spectrum of colors, and suddenly, the surface of this Earth shortly cooled down immensely. Through the rift that they had made, even now, the light regularly flashes. It is called the Aurora Borealis, the northern lights. God however sensed that these creatures had broken out, and He regretted the death of His First-Born. And the cold pulled back as fast as it had come, and He watched how one plain of ice was left where they had broken out. Once free from their prison, the five sentinel beings were shocked with the initial beauty of this wild new place, and their freshly earned freedom. However, the grandeur made them feel the need to be away from each other, needing to part after being in their forced captivity: they had grown weary of each other’s company. Neither of the five speaking their feelings, they just had to exchange a glance as they separated, to go to different corners of the globe in search of a place to belong. This was a new place to them, and they apparently loved to explore and find out about the new things that they now would bump into. The first one, the angels had called Insanity, but she had chosen to go by the name Anthoriax. Affecting the other dreams, she would destabilize the pureness of their emotions. They saw her as an outcast, a threat maybe, and feeling out of place, she was the first to leave. She traveled around some time, but decided to settle in Europe, liking the variety of landscape. Wherever she went in this continent, people within her presence would start doing abnormal things. Those who were unfortunate enough to be within her presence for long enough, would become what we now call mentally sick. Many started speaking of weird phenomena and kept to themselves, something which caused many to believe they were causing evil among the citizens. Then there was the dream of Sorrow, the one that had claimed the name of Yllexan, the one that would leave in no hurry, travelling slowly to the cold lands of Siberia. It was a place where the existence would be hard, the winters cruel and merciless murderers. Yllexan’s presence with the others would have confused them, and made them calm and frustrated at the same time. The effect sorrow had on humans was nearly the same, their tears freezing on their faces in winter, a sad frustration welling up from them. Yllexan never seemed to be affected by the cold, travelling from one place to another almost like a ghost, like one of the spirits of the deceased. Unlike the others, two had bonded slightly, their emotions not clashing but amplifying the other’s. They were known as Xylliandrax and Veltronx. Xylliandrax or, as the angels had named him, Terror, had been formed from a combination of dreams from God’s mind, ones of fear and horror. People within his presence would be more jumpy, afraid of him. Unlike the other dreams, this didn’t wear off when those affected were no longer near him: the fearful thoughts would remain implanted deep in their minds, causing them to be on edge, always expecting something to jump out and attack them. In the weaker minded, these thoughts could manifest themselves as delusions, causing people to see things that were not there, dark monsters without names. The other, Veltronx, called Fury by the angels because of the anger she was born from, dreams of the betrayal of His First-Born. The presence of Fury alone would cause people around her to become violent, their temper drawn tight just because of her presence, it was known that while she was present, rash decisions were made and tempers were tested to breaking point. The after effects of her on those around her once they had left her presence, was irritability, bi-polar disorder and in more drastic cases fits of anger. As a pair, their abilities would feed off each other, causing fear and anger, separating people from each other, making them doubt even the closest lover or family member, making small dislikes turn into hate. The two travelled to Aztlán, the original homeland of the Aztec people. The last one would head for the continent of Africa. It was the dream of Bliss, as the angels had named him, or Ushinthel, as the others called him. Ushinthel was the most cheerful of the five, and would be considered slightly annoying or distracting by the others. Meeting people, he noticed that he was one to always make people feel happy when they were around him. What he on the other hand did not see, was that he left the people in every visited place behind with empty hearts: woken up from the daze of their serene euphoria. Ushinthel was like a kind of drug: addicting and pleasant. His absence would make people feel hollow, completely the opposite of what his presence would do, this could in extreme cases even drive people to suicide. It however was not all the time that they stayed in the same place. Sometimes they would move across half a continent, sometimes to split up or to join another and travel alongside for a little while. But their personalities did not seem to fit, sometimes taking decades or almost centuries before they needed to split up, sometimes instantly clashing after only a few months or years. Even though the human population for ages already, upon meeting them, knew that the dreams weren’t normal, the difference wasn’t big enough to be certain that they were to blame for the change in emotions, the things that happened. They did not really do anything significant either, as it seemed as if their aura was destructive for the environment. The human’s intuition would feel this strange energy and try to warn them, however not always as successful. One thing however was obvious: wherever they went, people started acting different. The longer they stayed, the stronger this became. And when they split up, that was when the biggest changes happened. Either the dreams could split up peacefully, merely annoyed and sick of each other’s presence, or they piled their own emotions up in their inside until it all burst out at once. It was in this last case that humans noticed most, usually trying to find someone as scapegoat. Ever since the prehistoric times, the Spectral Dreams would walk around without leaving too much evidence of their presence after they had turned their back to a place. It was hard for the people to know where they were and who was one of them. The first one of the events that clearly showed the presence of the Spectral Dreams, was when Ushinthel and Yllexan decided to travel alongside for a while. Yllexan had travelled from the cold plains of Siberia all the way through Asia to find Ushinthel there, who had been travelling around Africa and had been planning on going in the direction of Asia and Europe. Travelling alongside would give a new dimension, a new point of view on those areas they were now going to visit: whereas Ushinthel knew the north coasts of Africa better, Yllexan was familiar with the Asian side more. They went to visit the early civilizations around the area of the two rivers, Mesopotamia. The combination of sorrow and bliss was what caused the first poetry to be written. People had experienced such happiness, that resulted in such unhappiness because of the loss they sometimes went through, they felt the need to write more than just the import and export, more than just the absolute necessary. They felt the need to write down these strong emotions that they felt, because their feelings were so big that they felt as if they needed to make them eternal. Bliss and Sorrow however were two did not really cause any problem, because they did not really feel the need to attack each other, to go hurt one another, even though their feelings were very much the complete opposites. They would travel for centuries, through entire empires and even continents, while on the entire other side of the world, Fury and Terror would have more trouble with each other. Their feelings leaned more towards one another, but it caused more trouble. Even though they felt like travelling together, they would often split up, one of the two going somewhere, to return later, and try finding the other back. They were incapable of hanging around each other for long in a harmonious situation. Their personalities would cause great catastrophes rather than good things, as the invention of poetry is regarded as, certainly if they met Anthoriax, the dream of Insanity, on their way. (Insert Pompeii here.) It was the struggles between Veltronx and Xylliandrax that caused the people from Astlán to move out, to move more southwards. Their feelings spread out amongst the people, the feelings of Fury and Terror, and they could no longer bear these strong feelings, the people needed an escape. As Fury and Terror caused great havoc with their fights, and fought over a large area, the people did not want to take any risks, moving as south as they possibly could, about all the way down current Mexico, abandoning their original homeland without too much of a hesitation.
